Get Outside!
Now the summer is here we thought we’d do something a little different & take a look at some of the best beauty spots for walks in & around the city of Birmingham.
Whether you enjoy getting out into nature or prefer a city park, there are plenty of local spots where you can take in some fresh air, & take a picnic too whilst you’re at it.
The following are the top 5 walks for Birmingham & the surrounding West Midlands County – you’ll be spoilt for choice…
Cannon Hill Park
If you live in the city you’ll most definitely be familiar with Cannon Hill, one of the biggest parks in Birmingham. During the summer months you can play crazy golf, hire a mini boat on the lake or even go on a fairground ride, & unleash your inner child!
The best bit, like the majority of parks, Cannon Hill is free for entry, so take a picnic from home & you’ve got a free afternoon out. Find out more about opening hours, directions & more here via the website here.
Lickey Hills
Outside of the city lives the Lickey Hills Country Park, a vast open space that’s popular with dog walkers & tourists alike. The area boasts nearly 400 species of flowering plant – why not go & see how many you can locate?
The walk also features one of the highest points called Beacon Hill, on a good day it has glorious views & as it’s an open space, is free to go to, get your walking shoes on & away you go!
You can find out more information about the site here.
Clent Hills
Clent is located 11 miles outside of the city, which is approximately 30 minutes in the car, but trust us, it’s worth the wait. This is similar to Lickey Hills but the climb to the top reveals a vast open space that makes for a pretty breath-taking view on a good day, and is popular amongst dog walkers & families for picnics.
If you’re feeling energetic there is a 2 hour walk you can take which starts at the car park & ends around Beacon Point – are YOU feeling up for it?
Clent is a National Trust site, you can find further details about it via the website here.
Sutton Park
If you’re familiar with the Sutton Coldfield area of Birmingham we have a treat for you!
Sutton Park has something for everyone – wetlands, marshes, heathland, along with 7 man-made lakes, sprawling to over 2,000 acres. The park is natural beauty at its finest, so it’s worth the short drive or train journey from the city centre, you won’t feel like you’re in Birmingham.
There are many different walks for you to enjoy, depending on what you prefer. Expect woodland areas, lakes, ruins & more.

This 660 acre park has everything, beautiful lakes, open spaces & outdoor play areas, so it’s another popular spot during the summer months with locals & tourists alike.
