Today student blogger Aysha Bateman, offers a basic overview of a Business Management student and shares top tips to make the most out of your day.

This goes out to all the new Business Management students worried about starting at BCU? Well, I am here to take away some of the mystery.

Each year the course changes slightly so every person’s experience is different.

Average teaching time

Typically, lessons fall between 9am and 6pm, we have structured teaching for around 9 – 10 hours a week, with 1 hour lectures and 2 hour workshops per module.

On some days you may have 1 lecture and others you may have 4. Sometimes you may even have breaks between your lectures that can be up to 4 hours long. You will mainly be based in Curzon Building and there may be some lectures in other city centre buildings.

The Morning

In the mornings, I wake up and have a balanced breakfast before making my way to university. If I have no morning lessons I go to the gym or get into university early to get my assignment work done. If I have any free hours after my morning lessons I make notes on anything important or I believe are relevant to my assignment.

The Afternoons

In the afternoons, I ensure I eat a healthy lunch that I bring from home, if I forget like I often did Curzon have a hot food canteen, campus shop that have meal deals and multiple coffee shops that sell lunch food. I would also recommend bringing snacks if you finish at 5 or 6pm. The afternoons are a lot like the mornings.

If I don’t have lessons I will stay for an hour or two to do work and then go to the gym. I also took the opportunity to meet up with classmates to do group work or meet friends in the city centre.

The Evenings

In the evening I go home and start to make dinner, I tend not to do any university work after I come home. I like to take the chance to unwind, balance is key. Preparation is also key, I like to pack my bag before bed so I am prepared for the next day. I then try to get to sleep at least 8 hours before I am due to wake up the next day.

Top Tips to make the most out of your day

  • Attend all your lectures and workshops - they only take up 9 hours of you week and you won't end up stressing out about playing catch up.
  • Ensure you practise mindful eating - have a relaxed conversation with friends or catch up on your favourite show while you eat so you’re ready for afternoon lectures.
  • Always do work in your breaks - you will find you’ll have a lot more free time at the end of the day and you’ll complete your assignments quicker.
  • Self care - when you get home focus on yourself. Do your hobbies, finish your projects or watch a movie.

I hope this relieved some anxiety around starting at university and if you are still worried, BCU have loads of content based around student experience. Why not visit their website and watch some YouTube videos.
