Today we have a pretty special post to share, talking all about the rollercoaster which was Graduate+ Week 2019, that took place just last week between Monday 4th – Friday 8th November across both of our BCU campuses, and wow, what a week both students and staff had!
This was the 2nd and final Graduate+ week of 2019, and what an amazing way to end the year, this had to be our biggest and best week we’ve had so far, with over 80 different workshops, events and fairs taking place. So, let us give you just a taster of what we got up to during the week.
On the first day of Graduate+ week we kicked off the week with one of our all-time favourite and much loved events… the GLASS WALK! That’s right, BCU students walking bare foot over broken glass, this one is always a winner and we had the pleasure of having one at city centre and then on the Wednesday at our city south campus too. Over in the Seacole building we had the Go Green Fair, from honey tasting to sustainably themed freebies, it was great to see so many of you embracing the eco-friendly movement. Along with this, we had a volunteering fair where different charities / organisations came to offer students different placements and opportunities.
Tuesday saw a variety of engaging sessions on topics including freelancing, mental health, fake news, business report writing, and so much more! We also had masterclasses on resilience & wellbeing, a session that proved highly popular, along with classes on presentation skills too… there really was something for everyone!
On Wednesday the infamous glass walk came to our city south campus which was as always, very well received! Over at city centre we had our Careers+ fair, with numerous businesses and companies taking over spaces in both Millennium Point & the Curzon building, this was a great experience for students to discover what opportunities exist for them after graduation. We had Dr Martin Glynn speak to students about how he prepared for his TEDx talk, along with sessions on designing your own social action campaign, Go Abroad at BCU opportunities, student safety… again, the list is totally endless. A hugely popular one that also took place on the Wednesday was the natural beauty product making masterclass, it was great to see so many of you getting involved.
On Thursday the Careers+ team over at our city south campus organised several drop-in sessions which proved pretty popular amongst students. From learning how to setup a LinkedIn profile to learning how to write CV’s and cover letters, it was great having this new addition to our programme this year. Over at city centre we had presentation skills classes, the Go Abroad fair, Furoshiki sustainable gift wrapping (super popular!) & so much more! When we say a lot happened during the week, we mean it, we’re struggling to keep up too!
During Friday, the final day of Graduate+ week, we had a gentle end to conclude, including a workshop from the team at the Botanical Gardens, a masterclass in making your very own bird feeder, along with a fake news session organised by the library team, and finally, several Graduate+ workshops which gave students a great chance to start completing their award.
Wow, we are exhausted just looking at all of that, it really was the most incredibly inspiring and joyful week, full of meeting new people, making connections, seeing lots of happy students taking the leap of faith to do something different, it really was fantastic! Finally, we wanted to take the chance to say a special THANK YOU to all of the external organisations and figures who helped make the week what it was! What was your favourite part about the week, we’d love to hear!
